Artist Name: Lunar Vacation
Who Are They: Formed in mid-2016, the surf pop group displays talent and consistency rare for young bands. This is the first and only project for all members, and their focused energy shines through every lush chord.
Members
Grace Repasky – Vocals, Guitar
Maggie Geeslin – Guitar
John Michael Young – Bass, Synth
Connor Dowd – Drums
Sounds Like: The dreamy continuity of the Pains of Being Pure at Heart combined with the self-assured jams of Beach Fossils. While fusing clever lyrics with gentle, dreamy music, Lunar Vacation address love, longing, and the trials of existence.
Releases: The band released their debut EP, appropriately titled Swell, earlier this month. That was preceded by a standalone single called “Anna,” which dropped in June.
Mandatory Listening: Their debut single “Anna” best encapsulates the summer shadows of Lunar Vacation. With lyrics like “The world is not going to do what you want it to,” Repasky melds simplicity and urgency while challenging the oft limiting mode of surf music.
Lunar Vacation will perform on Sat., Aug. 26, at JORTSFEST at the Mammal Gallery. Doors open at 4 p.m. Admission is FREE. All ages.
