I listen to many forms of music, but noisy, abrasive rock and hip-hop (in all styles) sort of make up the twin pillars of my musical existence. So excuse me if I get a little giddy when I look down this list of local records being released this month. Let me put it to you bluntly: if you aren’t excited about the prospects of new records from scuzzy, art damaged punks Vincas or grungy noisemakers Pretty Please, I’m not sure we can be friends. Similarly, if you aren’t stoked on the upcoming LP from psychedelic hip-top revolutionaries the Difference Machine or the Chuck D approved flow of Atlanta rapper Obeah, you need to make better choices in life.
Okay, so maybe you’re not big on noise rock or rap. Whatever, I guess that’s your right. So how about the new self-titled LP from dreamy folk experimentalists Little Tybee? Or the black metal and d-beat rage of Cloak? Or the frigid ambience and skeletal drone of Outer Gods? How do those sit with you? The point is: June is loaded with an abundance of phenomenal local music. Can’t find something you like? Keep digging. I promise you’ll find something to latch onto before you’re through.
For more in-depth analysis of this month’s upcoming releases, check out my recent discussion with producer Myke Johns on WABE.
