For obvious reasons, April is ripe for springtime themes of change, birth, and renewal. And to some extent that’s what we have in this month’s list of releases, which features a balanced mix of established local favorites and exciting newcomers. In the realm of change, we have the upcoming fourth studio album from the Coathangers, who chose to record outside of Atlanta for the first time in their decade-long career. Nosebleed Weekend was cut at the storied Valentine Recording Studio in North Hollywood, and you can feel the breezy California vibe running throughout portions of the record.
As for birth, well, we have several debuts this month, including first offerings from Sleep Weather and Poison Coats, but what has us most excited is the fledgling partnership between Atlanta’s BOSCO and Speakerfoxxx. The two longtime friends and influential dance party badasses will drop their collaborative EP, Girls in the Yard, on April 11.
Turning towards renewal, in the case of Stonerider and Dakota Floyd it’s not so much an issue of rebirth as it is one of long overdue works finally manifesting. Both artists emerge from the relative shadows this month carrying highly anticipated works in tow, setting the stage for the next phase in their respective careers.
And as if all that weren’t enough – oh yeah – there’s also new records from local stalwarts Hello Ocho, Lyonnais, and New Madrid to make sure that April is yet another musical month to remember.
