It’s an all summer sixteen season for the millennials, and they are taking names to put the fear of Christ into their 20-something-year-old peers. On this go-around, 18-year-old rapper D2, aka Yung Texaco from SFD Empire, reminds us all that the best revenge is our paper. Okay that’s Beyoncé, but still, his new single “Lettuce” is a banger with a similar message in mind.
Produced by F1LTHY, the track is underlined by cymbal clicks and a steady, low synthesized beat. Meanwhile, D2’s style is unmatched by the mediocre artists that throw their SoundClouds at us. The young phenom twists his bars into mini dialogues which makes his flow far more interesting, especially when he drops into his rolling slaughter shade mode. Like many of his other tracks, “Lettuce” is catchy with lyrics that aren’t your usual trap fantasies, but have a darker, more mysterious touch to them. All told, D2 is a young ambitious artist to look out for this year, and most definitely someone who should be on your Aux Cord playlist. Listen below.
