Recorded live and mixed in just five hours for the MOEKE Records’ Summer Singles 2015 compilation, “Placed Here” is certainly a little rough around the edges, but that bit of rawness works here as it lends some additional grit to the track’s mostly straightforward soft/loud dynamic. The series, which features a new single from a different artist every week of the summer (all recorded by Jesse Mangum at The Glow Recording Studio in Athens), is getting ready to wind down it’s 2015 run after releasing some quality contributions from the likes of Fake Flowers, Dream Culture, and the Viking Progress.

To my knowledge this is the first piece of new music we’ve heard since Juna released their second EP, On Courage, last year, and while there’s nothing here we haven’t heard from the Athens band before, it’s still a solid cut, especially if you’re a fan of the slower midwest style of ‘90s emo practiced by the likes of Mineral and American Football. The group is all about ethereal guitars and stormy buildups, and here their autumnal verve is put to good use as they slide from the languorous post-rock of the opening passages and into the Sturm und Drang of the song’s climax. The comp’s title may say summer, but the track’s gray-sky introspection and isolating chill definitely feels like fall. Give it a listen below.
