It feels like Project Pabst has been on imminent arrival for weeks now, so now that it’s finally here it will be interesting to see what kind of turnout and reception it receives. I mean, with both Run the Jewels AND Mastodon performing, this thing is going to be bonkers, right? And if it’s not, what or who do we blame? Because I’m not sure you could ask much more from a one-day festival — the headliners are terrific, the lineup is diverse, and there is a heavy local presence throughout. If attendance is subpar or the energy lacking, it’s completely on us, people. Don’t blow it.
And yet, let’s also not allow one major event to distract us from all the other great shows that are happening, especially when it involves emerging artists like Big Jesus and Warehouse, both of whom are celebrating record releases this week. You can catch Big Jesus Sunday night at Aisle 5. Warehouse, meanwhile, takes over Murmur on South Broad Street this Friday.
There are also a couple community-based events to watch out for, one of which takes place tonight at the Earl where the local live lit group, Bleux Stockings Society, is presenting a benefit concert celebrating local female, trans, and non-binary musicians headlined by ethereal pop songstress Tantrum. All proceeds will go to the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence. The other is also a benefit show, this one for Studilaroche owner and producer Ben Price, who was recently struck by a car while riding his bicycle. To help raise money for his bills, Little Tybee, Hello Ocho, and others are performing tomorrow night at the Mammal Gallery for a suggested donation of $20. All proceeds will go to Ben and his family.
