Halloween is always an excellent night for live music, and even though this year’s festivities fall on a Monday, the calendar is jam-packed with a litany of events covering everything from esteemed national acts to the usual cover shows to an honest-to-god all-day rager. Speaking of which, if you’re looking for something special to do today, you might want to hit up the first annual Halloween Hop in Athens. Kicking off at 1 p.m. and running late into the night, the festival brings together an impressive array of metal, punk, and indie rock acts led by Miami sludge-punk legends Floor, Long Island punks Iron Chic, and much more. Highlights for the rest of the week include a bevy of record release shows. Athens post-punk stalwarts Muuy Biien kick things off with a hometown celebration on Wednesday at Georgia Theatre, before bringing the party to the Drunken Unicorn on Thursday. Both shows feature support from noise-punk trio Bambara, so if you like your music with a generous helping of foreboding menace, this is definitely the lineup for you.
Elsewhere, on Friday Dot.s will bring their taut, dance-y jams to 529 where the five-piece will celebrate the release of their much-anticipated sophomore record, We Swim. Meanwhile, in Athens scooterbabe will unveil their debut LP, The Sorrow You’ve Been Toting Around, with a headlining performance at Caledonia Lounge. And finally, on Saturday Illegal Drugs’ raw, feverish self-titled LP finally sees its official release at the Earl while soulgaze trio Shepherds celebrate the arrival of a new 7″ across the street at 529.
