Guillermo CastroThis is one of those week’s where there aren’t necessarily any big ticket shows driving the narrative, but the calendar remains promisingly full nonetheless. Leading the way are a trio of record release shows, each one representing a different sector of the local music scene. On Wednesday, the hip-hop duo of Dillon and Paten Locke will celebrate the release of their collaborative LP, Food Chain, at 529. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the East Atlanta club will also host a party for Small Reactions’ surprise new mixtape, Night Reactions: MIX001. And finally, if you’re in Athens on Friday night, make sure to stop by the Caledonia Lounge to catch the unveiling of Deep in the Well, the long-awaited new LP from noise rockers Vincas.
If house shows are more your speed and you like being at the forefront of what’s next in Atlanta music, Hill Street House has a killer all-locals lineup on Friday featuring headliners Floral Print playing alongside up-and-comers Tired Magic, Twin Studies, and Newark Wilder.
However, if the communal spirit of outdoor fests or benefit shows are more your vibe, then this week you’re in luck as both options are available to you. If you’ve never experienced Tunes From the Tombs, the annual festival benefitting historic Oakland Cemetery, then this Saturday is a good time to change that as two-time Grammy winners and Atlanta legends Arrested Development headline the event. And seeing as how that show is sure to wrap up early, your next move should be to the Sound Table for Sickle & Flow ATL, a hip-hop benefit concert meant to bring awareness to the scourge of sickle cell disease. Featuring performances by COMMAND, Bassmint Fresh, Eri Soul, and others, all proceeds will go to support the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia.
