For as long as I can remember, Hip to Death have been writing and performing as a seething, chaotic noise-punk duo. On the one side, there’s John Breedlove looping sound effects and constructing dissonant, feedback-streaked backing tracks on keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums. On the other, there’s his partner and wife, Kasey, on guitar, edging the music closer to oblivion with an onslaught of acerbic leads and grating shoegaze discord. But apparently things haven’t always been this way.
Tonight at 529, Hip to Death will return to its original form as a five-piece. Joining John and Kasey in this new enterprise are original HtD members Mike Pazdzinski (drums) and John’s younger brother, James (lead guitar). Rounding out the lineup is seasoned Atlanta musician Todd Caras (ex-Entertainment, Feeding Fingers, Air Wolves) on bass.
According to a press release sent to Immersive Atlanta, the members have been practicing together for nearly a year, all the while writing and recording songs for a new LP. Entitled TMI America, the album is currently being mastered by Tom Ashton of the March Violets (UK) and should see a release in early 2020. However, fans should definitely make their way to East Atlanta tonight as the band has promised attendees a sneak peek of their new material and expanded sound.
Hip to Death will perform tonight for the Get Damned reunion show at 529 alongside Tiny Scissors and Lost Hours. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $5. 21+ to enter.
