Last week, garage pop stalwarts Gringo Star announced a smattering of details for their upcoming fifth studio album, which will be titled Back to the City. Written, recorded, produced and mixed at Atlanta’s Studio 234 by founding members Pete and Nicholas Furgiuele, the new LP will feature nine tracks and will be released on Aug. 24 by Los Angeles-based Nevado Music (Eternal Summers, Yukon Blonde), who worked with the band on their last record, 2016’s The Sides and In Between.
In addition to sharing details on Back to the City, Gringo Star also unveiled the the record’s lead track and first single “Easy.” As summer anthems go, it’s both billowy and languid, coasting on a breezy backbeat that helps carry the song’s dreamy psychedelia off into a shimmering sunset. Although the band has long been known for their love of '60s pop and retro aesthetic, their gift isn’t necessarily breathing new life into known sounds, but more so shaking off the cobwebs and dust and making them sparkle. Give it a listen, and then make sure to check out the new LP’s cover art and tracklist below.
