After spending much of 2016 on the road in support of their fourth full length, The Sides and In Between, Gringo Star have showed no signs of slowing down in 2017. The longtime Atlanta rockers kicked off the new year in style with a European tour, which was quickly followed by a string of West Coast dates in March. Now the trio has announced they will heading out once again, this time for a stretch of shows up the East Coast.
Joining them will be fellow locals Shantih Shantih who are continuing to support their debut LP, Winter in September. From a musical perspective, the pairing makes perfect sense—both bands mine the past for inspiration, pairing hazy psychedelic guitars with pop hooks. But in this case, the groups share a much deeper bond as Shantih Shantih’s Anna Barattin (vocals, guitar) and Julia Furgiuele (drums) are married to Gringo Star’s Nick (vocals, guitar, bass) and Peter Furgiuele (vocals, guitar, keyboards), respectively. “There is no one more supportive of Shantih than Gringo and vice versa,” Julia tells us via email. “It’s a family affair and we like it that way.”
The eight-date tour will kickoff on Tue., May 16 with a hometown show at 529 that will also include Doug Tuttle and Grand Vapids. From there, the bands will head north where they’ll eventually link up with New Haven’s Mountain Movers for a pair of shows. The tour concludes on May 24 in Asheville, NC.
