Gravez – Serenity

Even though he’s more known for his remixes of artists such as Drake, Travi$ Scott, Rae Sremmurd, and the Weeknd, Atlanta-based producer Gravez has managed to rack up over 4 million plays in a span of four months, while also grabbing the attention of BBC Radio, the Diplo & Friends show, and Complex, respectively. Determined to make a mark with his own original material, Gravez released his new EP, Serenity, on April 26 — a four-track effort that could put him in the running as one of the most sought after producers in Atlanta.

Serenity shows off the organic, minimalist style that Gravez possesses — he lets the music breathe without filling in too many layers in the space between breaks. It’s airy and ambient, but each track maintains a propulsive rhythmic backbone that helps the music glide through your speakers. In the wake of ATL hip-hop stars like OG Mako, Migos, and Young Thug performing over unorthodox backdrops, Gravez’s name could be next in the parade of superstar producers our city has helped create.

Although it’s ostensibly a solo effort, Serenity also employs a few of Gravez’s collaborators. North Brunswick, NJ native and “flow fi” enthusiast Diversa appears on the title track; 17-year-old, London-based Oshi shows up on “Sell Soul” and Red Lotus;” and PYRMDPLAZA appears on closing cut, “Glassss (Redo).” All three artists have worked with Gravez at one point or another in the past, which helps bring a dimension of familiarity and seamless continuity to the EP.

Even though Serenity was released just last month, Gravez has been working tirelessly on remixes, most notably Desiigner’s “Panda.” With a relentless work ethic and an ear for crafting captivating idiosyncratic compositions that feel natural and resonant, it’s easy to see why his stock is rising fast.

Gravez will perform tomorrow night at Aisle 5 in support of Iamsu! and Mod Sun. Hip-hop artist Bia opens the show. Doors open at 11 p.m. Admission is $20-22.
