Brooklyn-based electropop band TEEN performed at the Drunken Unicorn this past Saturday night alongside Philadelphia newcomers Mercury Girls and locals Gold-Bears and Slang. It was an evening of eclectic performances and shifting moods, which opened with a dark and melancholy set from Hayes Hoey and company. Slang is coming off the January release of their excellent self-titled debut, and started the night on a high note with unsettling psychedelic tales amidst the eerie glow of red lights. They were followed by Atlanta mainstays Gold-Bears who delivered a solid set of upbeat poppy songs before giving way to Mercury Girls’ buoyant indie pop. The headliners then took the stage and offered up a dreamy and elevating performance that changed the energy in the room once again. Vocalist Kristina Lieberson held the audience in rapt attention the entire night as the band rolled through songs off their newest album, Love Yes.
