Despite the ubiquitous mask, Leikeli47 has become one of the most recognizable names within hip-hop’s vast underground. The Brooklyn rapper has emerged as a singular talent, balancing her spitfire rhymes with flashes of R&B, dancehall, and neo-soul. Along the way she’s managed to carve out a unique identity, not just by obscuring her face (although that’s certainly played its part), but by fiercely proclaiming her roots, sharing evocative stories of her home, and finding strength both in her Blackness and her womanhood. Touring behind her triumphant sophomore LP, Acrylic, Leikeli47 will perform at the Loft in Midtown this Thursday with Atlanta’s own Yung Baby Tate playing in support. Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $18 in advance or $22 at the door. The show is all ages.
