For fear of reducing this post to boilerplate, let’s just say the latest from Fox Grin is very much in keeping with the lush and dreamy aesthetic the duo have been conjuring since they roamed the bars and clubs of Atlanta. Now based out of Nashville, Thom Chapman and David Bean still come to town to perform regularly, and while the pair may now claim Music City as their adoptive home, their sound is still very much one I associate with ATL. Regardless of their penchant for shimmering hooks and airy atmospherics, Fox Grin always manage to inject a bit of psychedelic flair and garage grit into their work, and the group’s latest single “Broken Watch” is no exception.
Created and edited by Matt DeBusschere, the video helps accentuate the song’s propulsive energy by, among other things, taking you on an interstellar into the center of the (sometimes animated) cosmos. There’s also quite a bit of vintage black and white footage strewn throughout the clip, which in a way serves as a passing reminder that Fox Grin aren’t afraid to steer towards the considerable nostalgia streak laden in their music. All in all, it’s a heady trip worth taking, another spellbinding effort from the two Atlanta expats.
