Jay Spice first captured our attention earlier this year with his hardscrabble candor on “Guilty,” the lead single from his debut LP, Grandma’s Boy. Today, the Acworth, Ga. rapper, producer, and engineer returns with another honest missive from the LP, this one aimed at the deep anxieties that can surface when there are suspicions of romantic betrayal. “How you supposed to keep a good girl if you’re never really zoned in?” he asks on the wavy hook, acknowledging that love is a two-way street that requires commitment and resolve.
Directed by Josue Harmon, the video depicts a love-torn Jay Spice forced to contend with the possibility that his girlfriend is cheating on him. Even as his friends arrive at his home to celebrate his birthday, he can’t shake the the feeling of despair; while his boys kick back and cut up, Spice just stares into the distance, head in hands. I won’t spoil the ending, but suffice it to say that things eventually come to a head and hard decisions are made.
