Atlanta’s the Head is an indie rock trio that seemingly have their shoes firmly planted in the late ’80s and early ’90s. While the average age of each members hovers in the mid 20s, the band has been drawing comparisons to artists like Teenage Fanclub, Evan Dando, and the Jesus and Mary Chain—acts that aren’t exactly on the radar of most millenials.
Recently, the group unveiled their video for “It Ain’t Easy,” a track taken from their latest EP, Millipedes. Filmed and directed by Rebecca Arrowsmith, the clip is an amalgam of facial close-ups, quick takes of the band hanging out and lots of abstract frames, which match the song’s gritty production. Much of the early footage focuses on a young woman who screams along with singer Mike Shaw’s raspy vocals. Bathed in black and white, a puzzling sludge rains down over her animated face. Shortly thereafter, Shaw appears, slathered in the same mystery liquid as the two trade lyrics and facial expressions. As videos go, it’s fairly simple and straightforward, but the song’s jaunty energy helps keep the viewer invested.
