I have been looking forward to the upcoming collabo between BluntGutsNation stalwart JP Villa and WolfpackATL mastermind Kebbi Williams ever since the pair dropped lead single “Blue Vixen” back in August. There’s still no word as to when the EP will make its way into the world, but to keep your ears primed and ready, the duo have unveiled a second single from the project.
“Different Strokes” showcases Villa’s dirty minimalist side as he takes a distended beat and warps it around a series of off-kilter electronic melodies and voice samples creeping like kudzu in the background. It took me a couple of listens for the groove to lock in, but once it did I was surprised by how catchy it is given how askew everything sounds. The track features KeithCharles Spacebar of Awful Records who brings his own abstract flavor to the mix by using his voice for rhythmic effect more than anything else. It’s more aquirky experiment than a surefire banger, but don’t let that stop you from getting lost in the duo’s oddball atmosphere. Listen below.
