Combining soporific slacker rock with high-energy garage punk, Pinkest can be a bit of a conundrum, but their irrepressible hooks and feverish guitars make it all okay. The Atlanta trio dropped their debut EP, You Are a Camera, on January 13 and it’s well worth checking out.

PLS PLS – Jet Black
Release Date: April 7
Label: Slimstyle Records
Release Info
I suppose you could call a PLS PLS a pop band insofar as they write anthemic melodies and hooky choruses within familiar pop constructs. But below that glossy veneer, their songs tend to be much darker and kinetic, full of tension and propulsive energy that feels more like punk. The band’s third LP, Jet Black, is due out this March.

Pretty Please – TBA
Release Date: Summer
Label: TBA
Release Info
Pretty Please’s grungy take on noise and hard rock may seem like it was tailor-made for 1994, but the Atlanta trio play with a raw intensity that puts the listener into the heart of the moment. The band only seems to get tighter and more creative with each release, which bodes extremely well for their upcoming full length, due out sometime this summer.
