First Abra, and now Yani Mo hits us with the rapid-fire, short burst heat. It’s a smart play — a sort of get in, do damage, and leave them rapturous type mentality that perfectly accommodates the soundbite culture we find ourselves in. While a lot of artists waste time grandstanding and belaboring their audiences, the Lithonia, Georgia native proves how much you can accomplish in a minute-and-a-half when you cut the bullshit and stay focused. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Yani Mo sings with power and soulful conviction or that the jazz-inflected beat she glides over sounds as good in your headphones as at it does booming out the trunk of your car.

The accompanying video, directed by Ollie Jukebox and produced by ProRow, maintains a similar mentality, accentuating the track’s warm weather vibes with sunlit shots that feel natural and not too fussed over. If there is an overriding sentiment that makes its presence felt here, it’s that Yani Mo’s talent and vision includes mad love for her city. “And I’m gonna hop on I-20 as soon as you text me” she sings in the opening verse, drawing the words out with seductive satisfaction. Just one line and “Vine City” already feels like an Atlanta classic.

Yani Mo’s sophomore EP, Space & Simplicity: Part 1, is available now for whatever price you choose.
