At this point in their career, StoneRider’s ‘70s inspired identity oozes out of every hazy chord. For any band so tightly tied to the past, it’s easy to succumb to the corresponding dangers of parody and monotony. StoneRider has always been able to avoid these traps not with garish invention, but with subtle innovations and, frankly, an obvious knack for rock and roll.

Like their previous work, the melodic rise and fall of the band’s new single “Hologram” screams instant classic, so the group chose an equally timeless style for the video. As the color spectrum cascades around the band, StoneRider merges Pink Floyd riffs with pop tendencies, and the bizarro result is something akin to psychedelic yacht rock. By definition this should be equally annoying and forgettable, yet here it is both emotive and calming.

StoneRider has teased their softer side in earlier recordings, but on “Hologram” the steely Southern rock edge has been replaced by pure gold. Ride the vintage hues into the hazy horizon.

“Hologram” is the first single and title track from the group’s forthcoming LP, Hologram, out Apr. 15. Pre-orders are available via Bandcamp.
