If there is an ideal setting for John Vournakis’ new video, it’s the Cottage. After all, his first full length album, The Devil You Know, as well as most of his previous material, were recorded within the same walls with his producer and friend, Damon Moon.

In the clip we find Vournakis accompanied by Moon on percussion, Chandler Galloway on keyboards, and Sydney Eloise on vocals as they waltz around the stone-encased structure to deliver a somber number about the fear that comes along with loving someone else. While this particular version of “Choke” was recorded live in a single take, it differs from the version that appears on the record, which is even more stark and bare-bones. The song’s skeleton and overlying message, however, remain largely unchanged.

The Devil You Know is out tomorrow on CD and cassette via Muckman Records with Bear Kids Recordings handling the digital distribution.

John Vournakis will celebrate the release of The Devil You Know tonight at the Earl. Supporting him will be Pony League (formerly Cute Boots), Cody Marlowe & the Dead Flowers, and Joseph Lazarri & Jeremy Ray. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $8.
