Recently, Atlanta-based music blog OpenEars Music announced they would be launching a new live series, Sound Soup, at Eddie’s Attic. Starting with the basic premise — why shouldn’t Atlanta have its own version of Austin City Limits or MTV Unplugged? — the goal of the series is to gather local and national touring artists who wouldn’t normally play in such an intimate setting and have them perform stripped-down sets. Tonight’s inaugural event features Atlanta chamber pop collective Oryx & Crake and the retro mining Black Linen, as well as Athens indie rockers Grand Vapids. For added spice, comedian Louis Galanti will play host for the evening with magician Michael Boone performing during set changes.

To help document the series, OpenEars has partnered with Public Radio Sessions, a music film production company based in Atlanta that focuses on takeaway performances shot in different locations throughout the city and beyond. All Sound Soup performances will be filmed and uploaded to Public Radio’s YouTube channel and premiered via OpenEars.

According to the press release, artists interested in performing at future events are encouraged to get in touch with the organizers, so if you’re a band or musician looking to stretch out beyond the typical dive-bar show, here’s your opportunity.
