Sure, everyone pays attention to Metro Boomin’s legendary production and Future has turned the world into his own meme, but maybe it’s time we started to focus more on Sonny Digital because your favorite producer with the kinky afro has risen once again!

It had been a couple of months since we heard any self-produced tracks from the Atlanta native, but recently he dropped “50 On My Wrist,” and we’ve been bumping it ever since. He first premiered the banger during SXSW by uploading a clip of himself spinning the turntables on social media. Unlike other popular producers in his field, Sonny Digital portrays himself as a both a rapper and an engineer, and at just 25-years-old he’s crafted beats for major hip-hop artists such as 2 Chainz, Juicy J, Future, and Wiz Khalifa. His style of rapping is a mixture of quick-witted metaphors and stacking his voice in multiple layers to make it seem like he isn’t the only artist on a song. As a producer, he’s versatile, shifting effortlessly from any category of trap to crossover alternative rap with rock influences (just listen to “Watch That” or “Made It”).

While Sonny Digital has been relevant in the game for five strong years running, he isn’t yet at the pinnacle of his career, taking over everybody’s radio or phone, appearing on magazine covers, or snatching up Grammys. The young dual threat still has a lot to prove, but something tell us that “50 On My Wrist” may be the start of his ascent. Listen below.
