The ascendency of bluesy rock and roll in the past ten years has led to an increasing crowded field of talented but nondescript blues rockers who populate everything from summer festivals to the radio waves.

With his new single “Doing Me Wrong,” Rod Hamdallah once again proves he can stand above the crowd and carve out his own territory; not through any sort of groundbreaking blues epiphany, but rather by returning to the musical and lyrical foundations trod by rock and rollers from the ’50s to the ’70s.

The track is superbly simple, relying on funky King Khan-style hooks and a dirty, foot-stomping beat that doesn’t let up for the three-minute song. The catchiness of Hamdallah’s music is undeniable, and though “Doing Me Wrong” is gritty, it is the poppy undercurrent which necessitates repeat listens. Though his live shows often showcase a revolving door of talented Atlanta musicians, on this latest release Hamdallah chose to play all the instruments himself. The result is an airtight groove rather than the lazy swing sound popularized by the Black Keys.

“Doing Me Wrong” is available for streaming now via Hamdallah’s SoundCloud, and will be officially released as a 7″ vinyl single in January 2016. Currently, he is touring with the Legendary Shack Shakers (Hamdallah joined the group in early 2012) and will be on the road throughout the U.S. and Europe until the end of November.
