There is little question that Athens has lacked, and continues to lack, robust representation in the electronic music scene. Regardless, Joey Tuholski, a.k.a. Pure Colors, is a local artist that is expanding the boundaries of what EDM sounds like in the Classic City. Following up his explosive debut EP, [ESC] Logic, the producer recently released the extremely funky “Blaze It Up.” The listener gets plenty of heavy bass that builds upon a simple yet groovy guitar line, creating a full-bodied beat that resonates throughout the entire song. The track is infused with vocal samples and a signature electro-funk sound that demonstrates Tuholski’s unique production abilities which are unlike anything I’ve heard in Athens. Following an EP with a single in such a short period of time is not always an easy task, but Pure Colors has managed to do so in a resounding way. Listen.
