While our primary mission at Immersive remains to inspect and illuminate the intersection of art and culture in Atlanta and to provide a platform for emerging artists and innovators, behind the scenes we’ve increasingly been turning our attention towards partnerships and education. After several months of planning and coordinating, today we’re pleased to announce the launch of one of those partnerships — the MVMENT podcast. The brainchild of host Konscious, a.k.a. 16-year-old New School student and re:imagine/ATL producer Quintavious Yarbrough, MVMENT will focus its attention on the music industry from a wide variety of angles and perspectives. From the artists who create the art, to the producers and inside players who help realize their vision and put it out into the world, the podcast will seek to introduce its audience to the people and voices that help define the culture.

For MVMENT’s inaugural episode, Konscious sits down with Andre Lett, a.k.a. D.R.E.S. Tha BEATnik (short for Divine Real Essence of Sound). The longtime local MC, master beatboxer, and all-around ambassador of hip-hop, D.R.E.S.’ career in music stretches back well over a decade to the beginning of the millennium when he dropped his debut LP, Have Mic… Will Travel, the first 100% beatbox-produced album in the history of hip-hop. D.R.E.S. graciously shares his insight and wisdom as he discusses his past history, thoughts on the current state of hip-hop, and much more. Few people in this city can match the ATL mainstay in terms of his experience and breadth of hip-hop knowledge, making him the perfect guest to launch what we intend to make a long-running, bi-monthly podcast.
