With all due respect to art rock legends Faust (March 25 at the 40 Watt), this week belongs — not to any one particular artist or a single killer show lineup — but to the local scene in general. At the beginning of the month we told you the week of March 25 was going to be a critical one for Atlanta and Athens music, and now that it has arrived, it’s only swelled in importance with even more new records to listen for. So it should be no surprise that this week we’re choosing to highlight the many record release celebrations dotting the calendar. Beginning with Femignome’s unveiling of ANXT this Thursday night at WonderRoot, March 21-27 brings us a total of 7 release shows, most of which feature albums or EPs we feel are going to help shape the local music narrative in 2016. Eureka California’s Versus (March 25 at Little Kings Shuffle Club), Wanderwild’s Fleeting (March 25 at Caledonia Lounge), KarbomB and Seagulls’ split LP (March 25 at Star Bar and March 26 at Caledonia Lounge), Newark Wilder’s Vanessa Atlalanta (March 26 at the Drunken Unicorn), and Nomen Novum’s ATLANTVM (March 26 at 529) — all of these are highly anticipated records from established or rapidly emerging artists, and it’s important for us to acknowledge and celebrate them. If ever there were a time to hold true to the old cliché “Support Local Music,” this would be it.
