Recently, we brought you the premiere of Small Reactions’ “RXN_1,” the lead single from their new stopgap EP/mixtape Night Reactions: MIX001. While the track wasn’t a complete departure for the group, it did introduce a lo-fi haze to their songwriting, which provided a nice summertime shimmer to their skewed pop. Yesterday, the band unveiled a makeshift video for the song, one that plays into the nebulous spirit of that stylistic shift.

Visually abstract, the video for “RXN_1” is an unraveling spool of seemingly unrelated clips — everything from tripped-out nature films and found footage to pulsing geometric shapes and some live shots of whom I’m guessing to be the Everly Brothers. There’s no discernible pattern to tie into, so if you’re hoping for some hint of meaning, you’re out of luck. It’s not particularly weird, per se, but getting high before you watch might not be a bad idea.

Small Reactions will perform on Saturday, July 30 at the Earl in support of Sealions. Fellow locals Bang Trim open the show. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $8.
