Watching Sea Ghost’s rise to prominence has been remarkable. After emerging out of nowhere with what seemed to be a fluke collaboration with Atlanta rapper iLoveMakonnen, the band proceeded to deliver one of 2015’s most well-articulated and arresting local records, SG. With every sweaty, packed, unhinged performance, the group has ensconced themselves as one of Atlanta’s most promising young acts.
As we eagerly await the release of their upcoming EP, Boy Music, See Ghost continue to find means to dazzle and delight us. Yesterday, the band unveiled their video for album centerpiece, “Dog 69.” Directed by Mike Ellwood and partially shot at their winter wonderland house show in December, the clip highlights much of what makes the band so aesthetically compelling. There is an air of surreal mystery coupled with a suburban vision that vacillates between cold ennui and liberating acquiescence. It all comes to a head at the house show where fear and anxiety can be forgotten and an unbridled enthusiasm for life and living can be embraced, if only for a night.
Sea Ghost will perform on Sat., Feb. 27 at Flicker Theatre and Bar. Supporting them will be ONJ, Konvoi, and Broken Windows. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $5.
