It’s been two years since Jebediah Springfield called it quits, but the band is finally playing a farewell show. In honor of the much-deferred event, the group is releasing a new video, as well as a three-song EP called Leave the Bomb Shelter, which has been in the works since they disbanded in 2014.

“Season 1 Episode 6” is a channel surfing supercut that includes everything from crocodile attacks to falling popes, but the centerpiece of the video is Lisa Simpson’s saxophoning. As the title of the song implies, it’s a reference to the 6th episode of The Simpsons and Lisa’s bouts with societal norms and schoolyard depression (a deep cut even for Simpsons aficionados).

For the uninitiated, Jebediah Springfield was an emo band (indie punk if emo makes you cringe), that was active between 2012 and 2013. Despite its inherent limitations, the band brought a depth to the genre which frankly seemed out of place during emo’s waning years. But even though Jebediah Springfield would have fit perfectly on Polyvinyl in the ’90s, the band was firmly linked to mid aughts Atlanta, specifically the vibrant WonderRoot scene.

According to drummer and local activist Gavin Caffrey (Fishmonger, Places to Hide), Jebediah Springfield had every intent of playing a final show, but the opportunity never materialized. Now, however, the impetus for the farewell event can be pinned on Pennsylvania duo Slingshot Dakota’s tour schedule. During their relatively short run, Jebediah Springfield often traded shows with the group and the original plan was to schedule their swan song with them; it just wasn’t convenient until now.

Jebediah Springfield’s farewell show will take place October 6 at the Drunken Unicorn with support from Slingshot Dakota, Kississippi, and Man Up, Yancey. The band will be releasing Leave the Bomb Shelter online prior to event, and will also have tapes featuring their entire discography available at the show. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $7.
