It’s been nearly a year since Fox Grin released their lush, dreamy single “Ocean Nocturne,” and in that time the band has remained conspicuously silent, playing few shows and releasing no new music. In the here today, gone tomorrow world of Atlanta music that’s generally a bad omen, but with a new video and a headlining show tonight at 529, hopefully this is a signal that Thomas Chapman and David Bean are getting back to the business of being a working band again.

Much like their organic indie pop, the video for “Ocean Nocturne” relies on both simplicity and abstraction to make its impact. The visuals are everything you would expect from the song — seaside shots of open water, white sand, golden sunsets, marsh fauna bending in the breeze, waves calmly breaking on shore. But in large part the images are blown-out and processed, making them look almost sickly in comparison to the natural footage. It’s an odd juxtaposition, but then again Fox Grin have never been a band to stick with the obvious. Their finest moments have required the listener to patiently peel back the layers to arrive at the song’s beating heart, so it makes sense their video would do the same.

Fox Grin performs tonight at 529. Supporting them are Stovetop Ramblers and Banjaline. Doors open at 9 p.m. Donations accepted at the door.
