In case you missed it, local post-hardcore foursome Microwave recently dropped their video for “Vomit,” the first single from their upcoming SideOneDummy Records debut, Much Love. If the title has you wondering, yes, this is literally a song about puking, although metaphorically speaking there is a lot more at play here, and I’m not talking about backyard wrestling or rodeo clowns. There is an existential crisis happening here, one fueled by corrosive cynicism and the knowledge that all vices—be they love or alcohol—are destructive if allowed to go unchecked.

Directed by Kyle Thrash, the video is stunning for many reasons, not the least of which is the amount of details that cram themselves into every gorgeous frame. The settings are all decidedly Southern and rural, and the clip is populated mostly by rebels, outcasts, miscreants, and people looking to do anything they can to escape the oppressive sameness of everyday living. That sort of tension and impotent rage lends itself specifically well to Microwave’s high-wire songwriting, which typically blends melodic alt-rock with moments of scathing post-hardcore aggression. If that sounds a tad formulaic, don’t worry, these guys do stylish and emotive rock about as well as anyone these days, and “Vomit” is a clear indication that they’re becoming a band to be reckoned with on a national stage. In support of their label debut, Microwave is heading out on a fall tour with like-minded rockers All Get Out and Gates. The three-week stretch will take the band through parts of the East Coast and through some of the Southeast although, sadly, there is no Atlanta date scheduled as of yet.
