The new Lyonnais video is a study in the same contrast that makes their new album, Anatomy of the Image, so powerful. “Hyperblues” is one of the most intimate songs on the record, and yet there is an opaque alienation which pulses beneath the steady strumming and washed-out vocals. The confessional nature of the song is bound together by a dream-pop sensation owing as much to Neu! as it does to the Jesus and Mary Chain.

The video for “Hyperblues” was directed by Matt Wiener who uses high contrast shots and side by side framing to bring out the shadows of downtown Atlanta cityscapes while members of the band strike candid poses. The video closes with the album’s cover art engulfed in flames, a simple crystallization of Lyonnais’ visceral intensity, as well as a fitting statement for a band committed to deconstructing rock music in the most distinct artistic fashion.

Anatomy of the Image is available now via Geographic North.
