Before we get into the thick of it, let me say that you could set “MXE” to footage of just about anything—paint drying, grass growing, outtakes from the 700 Club—and I would watch the hell out of it. As the most explosive cut on an album full of heat seekers, the track was all up in my playlists last year and easily scorched its way onto Immersive’s favorite local songs of 2017. So, yeah, I was a bit excited when I saw that Goldyard had decided to open 2018 by dropping some visuals for the certified banger. On the whole, the alt-rap group’s reputation for stylish, engaging videos is well-earned, and while “MXE” doesn’t quite measure up to Goldyard’s best work, it certainly doesn’t disappoint either. So sit back, clear out your headspace, and watch these four cats trade piping hot bars without even breaking a sweat.
