Despite all the delays and internal lineup struggles, I assume that someday we’ll all get the opportunity to hear Capillaries sophomore record, Kenopsia. It might even be soon. For the first time since the group released their debut LP, Into the History of Light, in 2012, the personnel situation surrounding the band appears to be stable and late last year the post-rockers responded by dropping one of their finest compositions to date in the form of the majestic “Seventy Five Down.”

So, yeah, even though we’ve yet to hear another track from the upcoming project, I’m choosing to be positive. And what fan wouldn’t be excited and upbeat after watching their new video? Directed by Mark Jackson and Drew Cook, the visuals eschew the usual cliché post-rock metaphors of fauna-filled landscapes, scenic backdrops, or space odysseys in favor of a more gritty and intimate approach. Utilizing blown-out closeups of the band performing as a base, the directors proceed to overlay a steady stream of graphics and stark black and white footage on top. The effect is evocative — at times almost ghostly — and it well suits the band’s tendency towards the cinematic.

It may very well be some time before Kenopsia gets a release. If that’s the case, hopefully Capillaries will continue to fill the gap with more captivating work such as this.

Capillaries will perform on Tue., Apr. 19 at WonderRoot. Supporting them will be Atsuko Chiba, Hallowed, and Pop Weirdos. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $5.
