This little bit of heat came through our inbox the other day, and while I’d like to say that I’ve got Cambiyo’s backstory sorted out and all the tantalizing tidbits ready to share, the truth is I know next to nothing about this cat except that he refers to himself as the Roswell Rider on his Bandcamp page, which to be fair hasn’t been updated in several years. So what then? Another young rapper on the come up, putting in work in the Atlanta underground? That’s kind of a given, no? So who exactly is Cambiyo?

For the purpose of this write-up he’s the rapper behind “Make Some Shake,” the lead cut from his new EP, Say Less, which looks to have been released about a month ago in collaboration with producer Paul Ay. It’s a catchy, anthemic track with an energetic hook, and Cambiyo does well to return to it often. From a style perspective, his flow isn’t exactly innovative, but his cadence is forceful and there’s no denying his zeal. Dude has got passion for his craft, and sometimes that’s enough to take you places.

Directed by Jason Lindner of Atlanta-based Highdeas Productions, the video capitalizes on that energy by centering its attention on Cambiyo and his crew who just want to wile out behind the rapper (I see you john.AVERAGE). The mood is jubilant, the vibe celebratory. Overall, it’s pretty straightforward stuff — especially for hip-hop — but that doesn’t make it any less fun.
