Formerly known as Boundaries, Blurry is a four-piece emo band that’s been quietly kicking around the Atlanta scene for a couple of years now. The group is getting set to release their debut EP, Note Worthy, later this month and to help promote the record, they’ve unveiled the EP’s first single and video for a track called “Fall/Rise.”

Like all good emo outfits, part of what makes Blurry’s music appealing is the way they capture the tension between suburban malaise and the relative freedom of youth. There’s nothing particularly inventive about what they do — soft/loud dynamics, roaring crescendos, driving hooks — but they perform with an exuberance that can be intoxicating and the vocals are just gruff enough to scrub away any sense of melodrama that’s often associated with the genre.

As for the video, it succeeds along many of the same lines. The performance footage is rudimentary band video stuff, but there’s something in the way it combines with the scenes of their frontman skating through town and other B-roll that encapsulates a certain coming of age narrative that feels relatable and authentic.

Note Worthy is out March 25 via new Atlanta label Megafuss Media.
