Dylan Banks has been making music as Skybison since 2012, but he’s recently begun to receive more attention since opening for Telekinetic Walrus back in April. His latest single was produced by Nolan Kramer of Cloudeater, making this the first time that Banks has not assumed the production duties for one of his tracks.

“You Don’t Say” relies on the ambient elements present in previous Skybison efforts, but is tied together by a consistent drumbeat and flowing bass line. These new additions give the song a poppy feel that keep the listener engaged throughout the track’s various twists and turns. Banks sings more boldly on this single than on previous releases, sticking to psychedelic phrases and using his abstract lyrics to influence the mood of the listener, rather than simply tell a story.

Overall, this is a definitive step forward for Skybison and we can only hope Banks will continue to explore the boundary between pop and ambient music with further releases. Listen to the track below and make sure to grab it for free on Skybison’s Bandcamp page.
