Since releasing their fifth studio album Back to the City in late August, garage rock journeymen Gringo Star have been consistently on the road, criss-crossing the United States in support of their latest batch of psychedelic riffs and energy-filled hooks. Now, the group is preparing to take their show across the Atlantic, with a three-week run of European dates scheduled for this upcoming February.

But before we get down to those details, we’re excited to share with you a new live video of the band performing a stripped-down version of the title track to their latest LP. Shot by local upstarts One2Take, the clip finds the group in familiar territory, performing in the parking lot behind the EARL in East Atlanta. In addition to showcasing a relaxed version of one of the album’s more upbeat cuts, the video also allows for a bit of serendipity, capturing Gringo Star behind the venue where they played their first show over a decade ago. But although it’s a neat moment of happy providence, it’s not one for which the band can rightfully take credit.

“Actually it was the idea of the [One2Take] guys, Ori and Gabe, who hit us up while we were on tour in September about doing something when we got back,” explains singer and guitarist Nicholas Furgiuele. “They want to start documenting lots of artists performing acoustically in street settings around Atlanta. It was their idea to do it back there because they liked the way it looked.”

As for the upcoming European tour, the trek will kick off on Feb. 6 in Firenze, Italy before heading through Switzerland, France, England, Germany, and more. As of this post, the band’s management was still sorting out the details for the tour, so it’s possible that additional dates and cities could be announced soon. In the meantime, however, Furgiuele and his bandmates are just ecstatic to be going back across the pond.

“We’re all very excited to go back to Europe,” Furgiuele says. “Just for all of it, really. Seeing old friends, driving down the highway, visiting all the places we’ll go through. It’s one of the best parts about being in a band, getting to travel and see lots of new places.”
