Ahead of their performance tonight at Aisle 5, Atlanta producer and beatsmith DJ Nervex has revealed his remix of the Difference Machine’s 2014 banger “Clocks.” Nervex wisely maintains the track’s abstract bent while allowing rapper DT’s ferocious third-eye flow to remain the backbone of the cut. But the purpose of any remix is to place the creator’s unique perspective onto an en established piece of music, and Nervex accomplishes this by pulling Conspiracy’s original backdrop out of the shadows and chopping it up into something more spry and playful. The result is perhaps a more traditional approach — one that takes partial cues from the classic hip-hop Nervex samples from — but without sacrificing the raw immediacy of the source.
