The new track from Big Morgan is a breathless rocker that slaps you around and then splits before you have any idea what happened. “Rabbit Hole” is the first release for the Athens band since the departure of bassist Brent Bolde and the addition of Andrew Cleveland (Mad Ace), but despite the lineup changes, there is a sharpness retained from last year’s debut EP, Family Housing.

Though the musicianship remains, Big Morgan’s sound has shifted away from Southern psychedelia towards beer-slamming, headbanging party tunes that are more in line with Diarrhea Planet than the Allman Brothers. The production on the new single is bigger and sleeker than previous material and the call and response guitar work is more polished than primal. In short, this is garage rock more concerned with product than process, an ethos resulting in a killer pop tune with a ferocious backbone.

Hopefully “Rabbit Hole” represents a direction which will define the band’s new sound. This is rock and roll which leaves you wanting more, which is something the world always needs. Listen below.
