After closing out 2016 on a high note with the release of the haunting, skeletal Age of Uncertainty and some subsequent touring, Muuy Biien have spent the better part of 2017 laying low and working on new material. Coming up this June, however, the Athens post-punks will hit the road for an 8-date tour that includes hometown shows in Atlanta and also at this year’s AthFest.
Joining them on the East Coast trek will be Atlanta’s Material Girls. Featuring current and former members of Concord America, Chief Scout, Saint Pé, and Slang, the band may be new, but its members are largely seasoned vets who are eager to spread the word about their latest project. To that end, an opening slot for Muuy Biien should draw plenty of eyeballs their way, and the group plans to take full advantage. “Like a glass of red wine with a bloody steak, or perhaps a big fat joint and a piping hot espresso, Muuy Biien and Material Girls are a perfect complement to each other’s raucous live show and tenebrous aesthetic,” Material Girls declared in a prepared statement. “The roads may be collapsing but MB and MG will prove the ATL scene is doing quite the opposite.”
For their part, Muuy Biien had the following to say about their tourmates and upcoming shows: “Material Girls is a new band of old friends; their songs are fantastic with a great show to match,” bassist Parks Miller said via email. “They are in their own lane, which we respect. Muuy Biien has plenty of new songs that we are going to introduce on this June tour. These two bands will complement each other very well. Can’t wait.”
