Spring is here and 404 Day is back with a diverse lineup promising sweaty, energetic performances by Young Dro and the Black Lips at Terminal West. Local shows this week are just as diverse, featuring the clawing post punk of Bataille at 529 on Wednesday, the heartland rock of Pony League at the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, and the premiere of Burn to Shine 6 at the Earl on Saturday. This documentary has been in the works since 2007 and features everyone from Deerhunter to Mastodon to Shannon Wright the Coathangers. Atlanta ex-pats Algiers and Moses Archuleta’s project Moon Diagrams will be performing in support of the showing.
If you’re looking for the best bands on tour, the two must-see shows will both be insanely loud… and completely different. On Tuesday at the Georgia Theatre and Wednesday at Terminal West, Sunn 0))) brings the cosmos to a halt with drone metal designed to deconstruct your body, mind, and soul. But make sure to save your spirit for Sunday because the Melvins, Napalm Death, and Melt Banana will hit the Masquerade with a lineup that seems more like a metalhead’s version of heaven (coincidentally, the show is upstairs in Heaven) than an actual bill. People have been buzzing about this show for what seems like an eternity and it is finally here.
