The second annual Flaky Niece lineup has just been announced and it is absolutely stacked. The two-night, twelve-band lineup boasts some of Atlanta’s best DIY punk, pop, experimental, and hip-hop artists, and will take place May 13-14.

Originally conceived by Yancey Ballard of folk-punk foursome Man Up, Yancey as an intimate, inexpensive alternative to Shaky Knees, this isn’t so much a middle finger to festival culture as it is a tongue-in-cheek effort to showcase a vibrant segment of the underground local music scene. Despite this only being its second year, the fest has already expanded from one to two nights and features two international DIY acts amidst the glut of Atlanta and Athens music.

To help boost the fest’s growth, Ballard partnered with local promoter and musician Kyle Swick of Irrelevant Music to host this year’s event at the Drunken Unicorn. In keeping with the locally focused theme, all proceeds from Flaky Niece will benefit Atlanta native and LGBTQ activist Matt Jones who was recently diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a particularly aggressive and fast-growing form of cancer. While no tickets will be sold to the event, $5-10 donations are strongly encouraged at the door. Additional donations can be made via the crowdfunding site YouCaring.
