Gothic girls of Atlanta, unite! Shadow queen Chelsea Wolfe descends into our midst on the week of Friday the 13th. With seven albums to her name, she’s perfected the arcane art of finding beauty in decay, shifting in her own shadows from saturnine coves to gunmetal voids. For Hiss Spun (Sargent House), however, the self-proclaimed introvert projects her most monstrous form yet, as snarling demons flank her in sludgy wastelands and bone-strewn deserts. “Vex” even features some proper death metal bellowing (which I’ll admit scared the shit outta me on the first spin). Verily, anyone with an ear for cerebral noise could easily drift into Wolfe’s summoning circle now — but goth girls to the front, OK?
