Atlanta trailblazers BOSCO and Speakerfoxxx have been busy women these past few weeks. The Atlanta natives have recently teamed up with Brooklyn-based powerhouse Fool’s Gold, had a strong run at last month’s SXSW, and have released a string of high-quality singles from their upcoming collaborative EP, Girls in the Yard. Described as an upbeat, in-your-face, collaborative mixtape with influences from 90’s house, trap, electronic, and other worldly genres, the EP is the duo’s first ever co-op project, which is surprising considering the artists have been longtime friends and mutual supporters.

What’s not surprising, though, is that these tracks hit with a level of viciousness rarely seen in female-oriented pop bangers. GITY’s first single, “Beemer,” is a perfect introduction to the overall project with a give-no-fucks, trap-heavy timbre. The track, along with the duo’s second single, “Shooter,” has an air of swagger to it that’s reminiscent of Missy Elliot’s cool and confident dominance back in the day. It’s a unique and energetic feminine blaze that’s necessary in today’s music.

But while these two cuts perfectly illustrate the intertwining of both artist’s individual talents — BOSCO’s futuristic R&B aesthetic and ambient vocal play mixed with Speakerfoxxx’s upbeat, trap-heavy production — the pair’s latest single, “Acting Up,” is one derived from the elements and influences that help define BOSCO’s house music sound. Produced by fellow Fool’s Gold kin Brenmar, the track is an homage to the tone and polyrhythmic beats that drive the house genre. While the song is less assertive than other tracks on GITY, it’s still a worthy headbanger that will be shaking dance floors and bedrooms in the near future. Give it a listen now on SoundCloud.
